Stranger – Wow you have just long beautiful hair !! What’s your secret ?

Me- Hmm…I try washing it once in a while

(Stranger refuses to believe me)

To be honest, I don’t bother with my hair. The reason it’s so long is because I can’t think of a new hair do, so I’ve just let it grow and now its at a length that’s irritating and cumbersome.

Many of us consider our hair as a security blanket. Some of us are very cray cray about the length, the colour , the style, the treatments, the whole nine yards. Where as I treat my hair like crap. I never style it. I don’t use any hair products. Been frying my hair since I was 14. Injected it with different shades of colouring chemicals and sometime I don’t wash it for days because its gotten so long that a wash hair day is a nightmare. Once I got irritated and chopped off all my hair, just like that. Its fair enough to say that I don’t care about my hair.

Spent 40 quid on a haircut. Why ? because I was bored of my long hair

So why are you wasting your time reading this post ?

Fine!! Yes I have been blessed with shiny smooth silky straight hair. They are real. No extensions, no straightening. Have I always had this hair yes and to tell you the truth if the quality of your hair is not to your liking, no amount of money, treatment , trips to the salon will fix it. You can always fry it and burn it to make it look the way you want it. But they will always be a pain. Make peace with it.

And if you can’t make that weekly trip to the parlour for another exorbitantly expensive hair care treatment, I suggest you try these home remedies.

I force myself to do one of these every week.

If you are like lazy like me, and you want a fix that is available at home -try these. My definition of lazy is someone who doesn’t wash her hair for 3 days straight and then makes people smell it, to tell her the intensity of the odour.

These tips are meant for hair growth and to improve the quality by making it softer and more manageable.

With my Repunzel like hair do. Hair Loss is a harsh reality. Invariably it gets stuck, or tugged and yanked and there goes my hair falling all over the bathroom room. Monsoons are another ball game all together.

What I do or try doing is putting hair oil

Warm a little olive oil, coconut oil or almond oil and gently massage rubbing it on to your scalp in circular motions. This is done best when you leave the oil overnight in your hair. However, if you cannot or do not wish to do so, dip a towel in hot water, squeeze the extra water from it and wrap the towel around your oiled hair. Leave it like this for sometime and then wash off your hair with mild shampoo and conditioner. Warm towel treatment helps the massaged oil reach deep hair follicles, which in turn makes your hair strong, thick and healthy.

Benefits of these specific Oils

Coconut Oil

By applying coconut oil on a regular basis, you can retain the moisture and shine of your dull hair.

Almond oil

Almond oil absorbs most readily into wet hair. It’s particularly good for thick, dry hair or hair that has been damaged by the sun or dyes. It also helps define curls.

Olive Oil

Olive oil, as part of a regular hair care regimen, can help your hair and scalp reach their healthiest potential. If you suffer from problems like dry, flaky scalp or dandruff, switching to olive oil is a good idea. If you suffer from frizzy hair or splits ends olive oil is the way to go.

Now lets get down to some serious business

(Use your breakfast items for hair masks)

I have never gotten a hair spa. I think its just putting more chemicals in your hair. I colour and fry my hair enough . Don’t need no more chemicals (snaps her fingers)

These natural home made remedies may stink up your house, but they actually work wonders. When I had shorter hair, I would do these regularly. Now its once a month. But if you want shiny silky hair, I would suggest to invest some time and do these. Instead of spending money on a over rated hair spa, try out these DIY’s and have a drink on my behalf from the money saved.

1. Onion juice- smelly but effective

Onion juice has sulphur in it which boosts the production of collagen tissues. These tissues assist in re growth of your hair. Take two to four onions. Grate the onions and squeeze out the grate thing to get its juice. Massage your scalp with this fresh onion juice. Let it be there for, preferably one hour. If not, leave it there at least for 15 minutes. Now wash off your hair with a mild shampoo and water.

Alternative method for using onion for hair growth

Take 4-5 onions and chop them. Take a litre of water and boil it. Add the chopped onions to boiling water. Let it boil for another 5-10 minutes. Put off the flame and let the water cool. Now strain and use the water to wash your hair after using shampoo. If you can stand the smell, do not rinse hair with other water that day. Next day shampoo your hair use clean water to wash off. If you can’t stand the smell, at least do not wash off with clean water for an hour. After that shampoo and rinse hair with clean water.

2. Eggs give extra protein to grow extra hair

Hair is primarily made up of protein. What’s the better way to grow hair than to provide it with extra protein,in fact, one of the best proteins- the egg white. What you need to do is take one or two eggs and massage your scalp with the liquids in it. Let it sit there for an hour, preferably covered with a shower cap. Then wash it off with a mild shampoo and water. You may even make an egg mask for your hair to give it extra shine and strength.

3. Green Tea

Now you have the perfect solution for those used tea bags that you throw away daily. Green tea, as you know is super rich in antioxidants and that helps in boosting hair growth and preventing hair loss. Apply warm green tea (from the used tea bags) over your scalp and leave it for an hour. Wash it off with cool water.

4. Yogurt

You can also use yogurt to get soft, smooth and silky hair since it works as a great conditioner. Apply some plain yogurt and spread it all over your hair.Keep your hair covered in a shower cap for a while; let’s say for 30 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water and shampoo afterwards.

 5. Honey

Another really effective home remedy for smooth and shiny hair is using honey. Honey retains the moisture in your hair keeping it soft and shiny for a long time. Add 2 tablespoons of honey to 2 cups of warm water and mix well. After washing hair with shampoo, spray the solution all over your hair. Gently massage it on your scalp for about 5 minutes and leave it there for as long as 15 minutes. Then wash it with warm water. Your hair will turn soft and smooth in no time.

There are more DIY hair masks but I haven’t tried those so I can’t say much about them.Only tried and tested content goes up 🙂
